About Us

Health system in Nigeria has witnessed persistent service delivery challenges and failures that have resulted in sub optimal and relatively poor health outcomes compared with other low income countries. There are numerous testimonies of unattended and unresolved cases of abuses, frauds and wastes; and non compliance with professional ethics, procedures and standards. The health system is largely unaccountable, and accountability barriers to health are significant.

Initiative for Health Accountability and Transparency (IHAT) is a Non-Governmental (non-profit) Organization founded to promote and monitor accountability in the health system, and support the efforts of the government in the prevention and mitigation of the effects and impacts of failed accountability on the performance and health outcome measures. IHAT has extensive network of registered accountability champions with detailed contact information to act as Influencers, mobilizers and informants to promote Patients Rights to Good Health, and as watchdogs to scoop and channel allegations of cases of abuses, frauds and wastes for investigation, reporting and necessary engagement with relevant actors and stakeholders .

To us at IHAT, accountability is the key to efficiency in healthcare and this is aptly captured in our tagline: “Healthcare Governed by Accountability”.

OUR MISSION

Our Mission Is To Make Accountability A Core Element Of Healthcare.

Riding on our mission,IHAT is creating a new value system of healthcare governed by accountability through multi-dimensional strategies aimed at improving efficiency, performance and making significant contributions towards Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and other health related Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). In collaboration with the Citizens, Civil Society Organizations, Development Partners and other strategic stakeholders, we support government to improve accountability in health.
