Abstract

The Initiative for Health Accountability and Transparency (IHAT) was established to promote accountability, health equity, and social inclusion within the health system.

The editorial highlights that the Alma-Ata Declaration launched a global movement to reduce health inequalities through Primary Health Care (PHC). Despite this, 40 years later, many people still lack access to quality healthcare, and health systems have not fully met the growing needs and expectations of populations.

To achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC), health systems must undergo significant reforms, including improving service delivery, financing, and responsiveness to emerging health challenges. As part of its mission, IHAT published this chronicle on Transforming Primary Health Care for Universal Health Coverage to increase understanding of the reforms needed to strengthen and renew Primary Health Care systems for better health outcomes.
