ENGAGEMENT WITH STAKEHOLDERS FOR PROVIDER ACCOUNTABILITY AND CONSUMER RIGHTS (HEALTHCARE INTEGRITY) IN NIGERIA

  • Posted on 09 Mar 2021

Dr M. J Abdullahi (Convener/CEO) led our team to an exploratory meeting with the Pharmacist Council of Nigeria (PCN ) whose team was led by Pharm. Mrs E.O. Olalere (Director/Pharmacy Practice Department).

The Objective of the meeting was to explore and identify areas of partnership and collaboration towards promoting Healthcare Integrity in Nigeria.

The Concept Note on Promoting Healthcare Integrity Programme (HIP): Campaign for Providers’ Accountability and Health Consumers’ Rights was presented by Dr M. J Abdullahi and extensively discussed.

The Presentation highlighted that deaths due to deficits in Provider Accountability and Consumer Rights in Healthcare (PACRinH) in Nigeria are staggeringly high.

The meeting achieved consensus on strengthening Continuing Professional Development/Training of Pharmacists particularly on Leadership, Management and Governance (LMG) Processes and practices, Clinical Governance and Medical Ethics amongst others.

The need for subsequent more inclusive meeting with other relevant departments including Education and registration is to be kept in view.
